Zombie Game, Knight of the Dead out now!
Posted by Will | Filed under Adobe Flash, Flash Games
After about 5 weeks of development I’m please to announce the release of my first public Flash game Knight of the Dead.
Knight of the Dead is a side-scrolling hack and slash fest where the player takes the role of of a Knight who must defend himself against a horde of attacking zombies. Enemies drop money which can be used between levels to purchase weapon upgrades, health, amulets or to repair their shield.
At this stage I plan to keep Knight of the Dead hosted exclusively here on ahrooga.com but hope to release the game publicly at a later stage. I have been having issues acquiring sponsorship on flashgamelicense.com due to bidding sponsors not replying to PM’s.
I’m also happy to announce that I have successfully produced my own custom in-game ad service as mentioned in a previous post. My system works similarly to MochiAds in that I can swap out the ads remotely and configure ad-disabled-domains. I also have my own tracking system in place. The benefit of this is I am able to rent the ad space privately, cutting out the middle man.

Trigonometry for Flash: A Visual Reference
Posted by Will | Filed under Adobe Flash, Tutorials
Trigonometry is something any aspiring Flash developer should learn. It is the cornerstone of becoming better at manipulating graphics purely with code.
I am certainly not a math guru by any means. I often find myself having to flip through a book or dig through previous projects to find the formula for getting the angle of a vector or the distance between 2 points etc. So I have created an animated reference to trigonometry within the Flash coordinate space. This is very much for my own reference but I think others will find it useful.
As stated this is a reference, not a detailed tutorial. If you would like to learn more about trigonometry in Flash i highly recommend Actionscript 3.0 Animation by Keith Peters.
If I have missed something or there is a useful formula you think I should add leave me a comment below. Feel free to bookmark this page for future reference.
Google Calculator

Did you know that Google search can return the results of complex equations? What’s great about it is you can often write equations in plain English.

I would safely say that I use Google for calculation more often than I use the Windows calculator for the simple reason that my web browser is always open. I’m also willing to bet Google would return the result faster than the time it would take me to open my desktop calculator application.
Below are some of the different types of math queries you can enter directly into Google’s search field:
