Adobe announces 'molehill', new 3D API for Flash

Published on Tue 26 Oct 2010 by Will

Adobe has recently demonstrated it's upcoming 3D API for Flash player at MAX in San Francisco. What sets it apart from the current 3D API available in Flash 10 is it is more of a 'true' 3D as opposed to the current 2.5D or 'postcards in space' type.

The new API is hardware accelerated and taps directly into OpenGL on Mac and Linux and DirectX on Windows machines. Adobe is claiming it will be available on mobile devices and will fallback to CPU rendering when GPU rendering is not available.

Further details are a little scarce at the moment but suffice to say it's looking very impressive.
