I am pleased to announce this relaunch of Ahrooga.com!

Regular readers may have noticed a lack of new content over the past few months, that is because I've been working on this brand new version of Ahrooga.

The biggest change has to be the entire departure of being a Wordpress powered blog. I decided it was time to rebuild the site the way I wanted it. That meant throwing out Wordpress in favour of something I have better control over. This is not to say I have an issue with Wordpress, in fact a lot of how this site has been built is inspired on how Wordpress functions.

Like my portfolio site, williamdady.com, I decided I wanted to rebuild Ahrooga using Django, the excellent web framework based on the Python programming language. I encourage anyone thinking of writing their own blog, website or application to check out Django for themselves.

While I do still consider Ahrooga to be a constant work in progress, some of the new features are:

Better social media integration with shareability widgets at the bottom of every entry
Newer 'magazine' style layout
Improved cross article linking at the bottom of entries with 'You might also like' section.
Integration with Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3)
Better code coloring (thanks to SyntaxHighlighter)
Easier Flash embedding with a custom parser which converts a special text syntax into SWFObjects
