New Flash Game: Sucka Swing
Published on Sun 27 Mar 2011 by Will
I have finally been able to finish a Flash game I started several months ago. It's called Sucka Swing and it's a superhero themed game of skill requiring you to swing from building-to-building and travel as far as possible without hitting the ground.
I created SuckaSwing atop my framework of choice, RobotLegs and used Robert Penner's Signals as an alternative to Flash's native events. I created the illustrations myself using Photoshop and a Wacom Intuos 4. I had a great time creating this game. I learnt a lot and have a great appreciation for not only what goes into making a game but also the challenges of making a game fun and rewarding to play.
Please check out Sucka Swing at kongregate, I'd love to know what you think. If you run a game portal free to download a copy of the game here for hosting on your own website.

Hey Will,
You really did an amazing job of coming up with a very simple, yet addictive and rewarding gameplay mechanism. The smoothness of the animation and quality of the artwork really makes sucka swing a fun time killer. I also like the upgrade features quite a bit.
a question?
are you blitting the movement of the buildings? can't believe how smooth it runs.
suggestion for v2 if there is one:
have a restart button. often if I mess up in the beginning I want to restart right away and not wait for my 3 pairs of shoes to get removed.
this game is great and I love playing it. Would be interested to hear if you have tested on any tablets and how well it performs.
Looking forward to your next game.
Carl
Thanks Carl. Good point about having a reset button. To answer your question, no the buildings are not blitted. However, I'm using an object pool for the buildings so each building instance gets checked back into the pool once they leave the left of screen and checked out (randomly) when they come in from the right. I think this is attributable to the smoothness. I haven't investigated putting this on a tablet due to not owning one :P
Thanks for the feedback! I really appreciate it :D
